Tucson Highlights

Yet another confused reader has demandeded a new post.  Apparently he did not learn or read the last entry, Twitter Blog, to realize that our lives do not always rise to the occasion of frequent comment.  Alas for you.

In the past two weeks, we have toured the town of Tucson, taking in sights wondrous and mundane.  To wit, the most interesting:
** Pima Air and Space Museum.  If you like airplanes, gotta go here!  I've visited many such museums over the years, but never have seen the number and variety of this collection.  Two exhibits actually:
1 The Museum www.pimaair.org contains over 300 airplanes and space vehicles from the US and abroad and historical displays;
2 The 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Regeneration Group (AMARG) http://www.dm.af.mil/units/AMARC.asp , also known as the "Boneyard," seen via bus tour, where they store and restore military aircraft for reuse, parts, or museum display.  The pictures here give you only a hint of the two collections.  Click here for pictures

**Tucson Museum of Art, where we viewed a private collection of Ansel Adams photos.

** Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum.  A world class zoo, natural history museum and botanical garden.  We took in the afternoon raptor exhibit, with Harris Hawks flying so low overhead you could reach out and touch them, at the risk of losing a piece of finger.  Click here for pictures

** Avatar.  I saw this movie alone, then again with Jenna.  The second time, I realized why certain conservative commentators have turned apoplectic with rage over the liberal biases in this movie:
1. If you take off the 3D glasses, squint, and blink rapidly, you will eventually see the subliminal message, "Democrats are cool!"
2 The Na'vi rode steeds similar to donkeys.
3 Like the Na'vi, Barak Obama is tall.

For those worried that we are suffering in another GFD [Click here for explanation], here are some pictures of the desert from our site. Click here for pictures .  It ain't Yuma, baby!

Twitter Blog

Certain readers have asked us to post daily, rather than continue our more selective and leisurely pace of weekly or so.  Ever willing to cater to the whims of both of our readers  [Ha
ha ha...snicker...snicker], we'll give it a try.

  • Clancy awoke Bruce at 7.00am.
  • Took Clancy out.
  • Bruce awoke Jenna at 7.30am.
  • Breakfast - sausage, toast, and coffee.
  • Took Clancy out.
  • Reviewed RV parks to visit for next year.
  • Took Clancy out.
  • Took off in the truck to look at RV parks.  Now happy with our current choices.
  • Stopped at bicycle shop to buy new tire tubes.
  • Dropped off generators for repair.
  • Lunch at an Irish pub - Guiness and corned beef!
  • Back home.
  • Took Clancy out.
  • Nap.
  • Wrote this blog entry.
  • Still need to take Clancy out.

OK.  Typical day, typical post.  Now you choose.

Poll
1 Great stuff here.  You lead an interesting life.  Get Clancy a diaper tho.
2 Maybe you should go back to your weekly posts.  And take up a hobby.
3 Annual updates would suffice.
4 Maybe every other year.
5 I plan to remove the browser from my computer.

In the spirit of the American Democratic/Republican process, we will only consider votes accompanied by boatloads of cash.  But then you already knew that.

The Plot Thickens - with New Lyrics!

Reader Gypsy commented on the prior post that
I lived in Cincinnati where the signs on the interstate were given in kilometers way back in the 1970's. That was when there was a big push to go metric but few people did. The signage in Ohio hasn't changed as far as I know.

Which provides evidence that this socialist plot goes back 40 years!  Joe McCarthy was right!!

With apologies to Paul Simon's Lyrics to Mrs. Robinson
Where have you gone, Joe McCarthyo,
A nation turns its lonely eyes to you,
(Woo woo woo.)

What's that you say, Joe McCarthyo,
Communism never went away,
(Hey hey hey...Hey hey hey.)

We've got the dirt on you, it's all right here in secret files.
Start talking and incriminate yourself.

Look around you, all you see are evil-doers' eyes.
Put you on the black list, then you can go home.

And here's to you, Sarah Pa-a-lin.
Teabaggers turn their desperate eyes to you.

Yes it's true.
What's that you say, Sarah Pa-a-lin,
Ignorance comes 'round again today.

Election day.  Not far away.

Sitting on a sofa on a Sunday afternoon.
Going to the candidates debate.  (Not great.)
Laugh about it, shout about it.
When you've got to choose.
Ev'ry way you look at it, you lose.

And here's to you, Barak Obama,
Electorate beginning to doubt you.
(Woo woo woo.)
What's that you say, Barak Obama,
Bankers own Repubs and Dem'crats too.
Got you too.  Money talks true.

Tubac, AZ

Today we toured Tubac in our truck, traveling touth from Tucson.  [G'wan, say it three times fast.]  We had an alliterative time.

Tubac offers an artsy/toursity district.  And a Border Patrol checkpoint heading north.

Here's an example of the local art.

But all this is an introduction to my main point.  See this sign?

All highway signs south of Tucson are marked in kilometers!  Not American miles!!  Even the interstates, as in United States!!!  Does Rush know about this?

Yet another sign (Ha ha!) of creeping Obama Socialism.  What's next?  Coca Cola by the liter??  Tea baggers by the gram?  Call the Pink House now and register your protest!!!!

Better Luck in Mesa

We did not return to that dog unfriendly park after the dealer finished our repairs.  Instead we met a woman at the repair center whose mother just adopted a Clancy dog.  She [the human] directed us to Mesa Village Mobile Home Park.

Whatta place!  Art Linkletter See this link if you're too young reportedly built this park in the 1950s.  And it still looks like the 50s.  Check out this picture if you can [double click it for a full size version].

Trailers with little figurines of Snow White and Seven Dwarfs, Bambi, etc.  Teal blue and white umbrellas at the pool.  A place that time forgot.

Looked like fun.  But we yearned to return to Tucson, so departed.

Doga Non Grata

Here we are in Apache Junction, AZ, ready to take our trailer for service tomorrow.

Finally found an RV park here in high season.  Most of the RVs here are not RVs, but rather permanent park models. Park has narrow roads plus high curbs to scrape the trailer hitch of a fully loaded truck.  Makes for a challenging backup park job.  Get the picture so far?

They tell us about a small dog run, which you can walk to.  Or go thru the locked gate to the adjacent sidewalk if you do not want to walk on the (narrow) park streets.  We choose the latter.

We walk outside and over to what appears to be a fenced area inside.  But no entrance back in.  We keep walking, eventually all around this large park and fail to find another gate.  We finally return to the main entrance.

Where the first of two security personnel tell us that we must carry our dog thru the park till we reach our area of "pet sites."  His feet may not touch the hallowed ground in most of the park.  No poopin'.  No pissin'.  No prancin'.  Huh?

Please see Clancy's recent posts about canine rights.  Now you see why!!

Oh, by the way, that dog run was actually outside the park.  Get the complete picture now?

Making a note now for future non-use.

The Mini-Time Machine Museum of Miniatures

Today we, along with Jenna's sister Pat from NC, visited a new museum in Tucson, The Mini-Time Machine Museum of Miniatures.

A long time collector of miniatures donated her collection and opened this modern museum. We enjoyed looking at 1/12 scale miniature houses and castles and all manners of scenes spanning
hundreds of years, while avoiding a seemingly endless stream of coughing, hacking, sneezing children. Send them back to school to infect the school staff and each other!!

We were not allowed to take pictures of this private collection. But you can view some on their  web site.   www.theminitimemachine.org/

On our way out, we saw this miniature dog. We multiplied that price by 12 and realized that Clancy was a relative bargain!  Good dog!!
